The seasons of life and the blessing of our latter years

We find ourselves in unprecedented times. No matter your age, race or religion, this most certainly is a first for us: as we navigate our ways through a National Lockdown - the result of a global pandemic that is taking the world by storm and turning our “normal” into something quite different. The only certain thing is that everything is uncertain.  The other certainty is that this too shall pass.

Yes, this is a very difficult time for many of our fellow citizens, family and friends, but what if it is also a new season of our lives - one in which we have been presented with a wonderful gift: the gift of time. Lots and lots of glorious time. The time that one is awarded in their later years.

This is a time to think more about what is important to us, time to reflect on our lives and our achievements, time to spend with loved ones – if you are lucky enough to live together. Time to learn new skills, time to set new goals, time to read more books and time to relax, time to be productive around the house; bake delicious cakes, begin new hobbies as well as repair or improve our relationships!

So often, when we are young, we complain about how work, children and responsibilities consume and control our day to day lives. We get caught up in the rush because it seems to be a normal passage of life. But this rush, it is a season. And for the elderly, this season passes and gives way to a new one, bringing with it, the luxury of time.

“This luxury should allow us to focus on what is now the most important thing – loving ourselves and loving others.”

We no longer have the all-consuming workloads and household duties; our kids have left the nest and there are fewer responsibilities weighing down on us. As we move into this new season, we find ourselves sitting with a lot more time on our hands - as if a reward for all the years we have put in. This luxury should allow us to focus on what is now the most important thing – loving ourselves and loving others.

Old age is a time to be cherished.  A time for us to make the most of the things that make us happy!

It’s time to learn a new skill – join a community group and learn to knit or crochet, enjoy the challenges of crossword puzzles or adult colouring books; learn how to sing a favourite song or finally play that musical instrument.

It is a season to find a new hobby – take pleasure in discovering new birdlife in your garden, go for leisurely hikes or create a scrapbook album filled with your lifelong memories, watch all your favourite movies and create a bucket list of books to read… and start reading them!

There is a season for everything.  There are “full” seasons and quiet, more restful seasons, where we are able to look back and then relish the rush gone by. Whatever season you are in, we hope that you make use of your time in a way that makes you content, fully present, completely immersed in the beauty of today.

Genuine care and commitment to people in the latter seasons of life is what we live to celebrate. To ensure quality of life for our occupants, where every day is a day of purpose.  Through expert and compassionate care and a non-disruptive, adaptable approach to the minding of the people in our care, we aim to exceed expectations and break the stigma that old age homes and assisted living services bring with them.

We want to be a place where people come to be energised, a place where every story and season of life is appreciated and not forgotten.
